There are two types of 12V chargers, the direct current, and the alternating current. Each one of these has it's own pros and cons. Although there is no definitive "best" type of battery charger, if you need to charge more than one battery at a time, I highly recommend using a direct current charger.

If you want to charge two batteries, the charger will first do a simple "charge balance" which is just the basic balancing of the total battery current. Then, it will send a signal to the controller board that sends the current to the battery.

 

Once the first stage is complete, the second stage is done by sending a signal to the controller board. It will tell the battery charger to activate the next stage, where the battery is used as the power source. Then, the second stage begins charging the battery.

 

It doesn't take long for the whole process to finish. And, you do not have to be near the charger to use it!

If you want to charge your battery, but don't want to try to figure out how to do so on your own, then I would recommend purchasing a kit. Kits come with everything you need to do the job. It does take some time to assemble all the parts, but it can save you a lot of time and money.

 

You will also be able to upgrade your battery charger if your batteries don't hold up anymore. It could cost a few extra dollars, but it could mean you have a newer, more powerful charger.
